In this article, we will explore the meaning of the brown lightsaber, discuss the character associated with it and talk about the crystal that creates this color.

Brown Lightsaber Meaning

The brown lightsaber represents a deep connection to plant life and nature.

The only known brown lightsaber in Star Wars belongs to Ood Bnar. By examining Ood Bnar’s personality and life, we can clearly understand the meaning behind the brown lightsaber.

  • Connection to Plants: In Star Wars, Ood Bnar had a special relationship with plants and nature. He understood and protected the natural world.
  • Color of Nature: Brown is the color of the earth and soil, which are essential for plants to grow. This makes it a natural symbol for a strong bond with nature.

In simple terms, Ood Bnar’s brown lightsaber shows his deep bond with nature and plants. His actions and his inherent nature as a Neti highlight this special connection. The brown lightsaber is a symbol of a Jedi’s close relationship with the earth and their role in protecting it.

Who Has a Brown Lightsaber in Star Wars?

The only known user of a brown lightsaber in Star Wars is the Jedi Master Ood Bnar.

Ood Bnar

Who is Ood Bna?

Ood Bnar was a Neti Jedi Master who lived for more than five thousand years, starting before the Great Hyperspace War in 5000 BBY and continuing until 10 ABY.

He was born on the planet Ryyk but got stranded on Myrkr when he was young. Later, he joined the Jedi Order and became one of the most respected Masters of his time.

Bnar was an expert in Sith history and preferred to avoid fighting, though he often advised other Jedi on how to battle the dark side. His knowledge of Jedi and Sith lore was so great that he made a holocron, which was passed down for centuries.

Bnar eventually became the assistant to Head Librarian Odan-Urr at the Great Jedi Library on Ossus. After Odan-Urr was killed by Exar Kun during the Great Sith War in 3996 BBY, Bnar became the Head Librarian. But his time in that role was short. He and other Jedi found out they had little time to escape before Ossus would be destroyed by a Sith-created supernova in the nearby Cron Cluster.

While the other Jedi rushed to save what they could, Bnar went to protect his collection of ancient lightsabers. Exar Kun arrived to steal any remaining artifacts. Knowing he couldn’t defeat Kun, Bnar turned into a giant, immovable tree to block Kun from getting the lightsabers.

Bnar survived the destruction of Ossus and went into a deep sleep for thousands of years, leaving behind his brown lightsaber crystal, later called “Bnar’s Sacrifice”, as a legacy. The native Ysanna tribe believed he was the source of their magic and for 4,000 years performed a ritual at his location, calling it “the place of Ascension”.

In 10 ABY, Bnar woke up to find Luke Skywalker and Kam Solusar fighting a Dark Side Elite named Sedriss QL, who had taken a native girl hostage. Bnar saved the girl and trapped Sedriss with his roots. Sedriss tried to use dark energy from Ossus against Bnar, but Bnar fought back with the power from the ground. Bnar sacrificed himself to defeat Sedriss and save the two Jedi and the girl.

Ood Bnar and His Connection to Plant Life and Nature

  • Ood Bnar belongs to the Neti species, which are like plant people. They can change their shape to look like trees and are very connected to plants and nature.
  • Ood Bnar took care of ancient Jedi knowledge on a planet full of plants and animals called Ossus. This role shows his deep bond with nature.
  • When the Sith attacked Ossus, Ood Bnar turned himself into a big tree to protect important Jedi items. This act shows his strong link to the natural world and his willingness to protect it.

Obtaining a Brown Lightsaber With Bnar’s Sacrifice

Bnar’s Sacrifice was a brown lightsaber crystal owned by the Jedi Master Ood Bnar.

When Bnar was cut down during the Old Republic era, he left his lightsaber crystal as a gift for future generations.

Once a Force-sensitive had adjusted this crystal for their lightsaber, it could be used by no other.
