Ood Bnar was a Neti Jedi Master who lived for more than five thousand years, starting before the Great Hyperspace War in 5000 BBY and continuing until 10 ABY.

He was born on the planet Ryyk but got stranded on Myrkr when he was young. Later, he joined the Jedi Order and became one of the most respected Masters of his time.

Bnar was an expert in Sith history and preferred to avoid fighting, though he often advised other Jedi on how to battle the dark side. His knowledge of Jedi and Sith lore was so great that he made a holocron, which was passed down for centuries.

Bnar eventually became the assistant to Head Librarian Odan-Urr at the Great Jedi Library on Ossus. After Odan-Urr was killed by Exar Kun during the Great Sith War in 3996 BBY, Bnar became the Head Librarian. But his time in that role was short. He and other Jedi found out they had little time to escape before Ossus would be destroyed by a Sith-created supernova in the nearby Cron Cluster.

While the other Jedi rushed to save what they could, Bnar went to protect his collection of ancient lightsabers. Exar Kun arrived to steal any remaining artifacts. Knowing he couldn’t defeat Kun, Bnar turned into a giant, immovable tree to block Kun from getting the lightsabers.

Bnar survived the destruction of Ossus and went into a deep sleep for thousands of years, leaving behind his brown lightsaber crystal, later called “Bnar’s Sacrifice”, as a legacy. The native Ysanna tribe believed he was the source of their magic and for 4,000 years performed a ritual at his location, calling it “the place of Ascension”.

In 10 ABY, Bnar woke up to find Luke Skywalker and Kam Solusar fighting a Dark Side Elite named Sedriss QL, who had taken a native girl hostage. Bnar saved the girl and trapped Sedriss with his roots. Sedriss tried to use dark energy from Ossus against Bnar, but Bnar fought back with the power from the ground. Bnar sacrificed himself to defeat Sedriss and save the two Jedi and the girl.
