A cyan lightsaber is an extremely rare weapon in Star Wars, it has a unique blue-green hue differing from the more common blue or green lightsabers traditionally associated with Jedi.

In this article, we will explain the meaning of the cyan lightsaber and discuss the users associated with it.

What Does a Cyan Lightsaber Mean?

The cyan lightsaber represents strength and courage with kind hearts, this fine balance is seen in warriors who use their lightsabers with grace and their minds with wisdom and care.

This balance is achieved because the cyan lightsaber combines qualities from both blue and green lightsabers. Blue lightsabers are traditionally the weapons of choice for Jedi Guardians known for their strength and bravery. Conversely, green lightsabers are held by Jedi Consulars who prioritize life, harmony with nature and care for all, these kind warriors have a strong bond with living things and work hard to guard the peace of the galaxy. The cyan color represents a blend of these two perspectives into a unified whole.

Some key points about the meaning and symbolism of cyan lightsabers:

  • The cyan lightsaber symbolizes a balance between the wisdom and diplomacy of green lightsaber wielders and the justice and protection of blue lightsaber users.
  • The cyan lightsaber signifies calmness, peace, and clarity. It is wielded by Jedi who have achieved a tranquil and focused state of mind, allowing them to make wise decisions and act with precision.
  • The cyan lightsaber is a symbol of distinction, signaling a Jedi’s deep connection to the Force and their ability to resist the lure of the dark side.

Cal Kestis was a human male with the ability to use the Force, he became a Jedi Knight when the Galactic Empire was in power.

After most of the Jedi were killed, Cal hid on the planet Bracca for many years, his peaceful life changed when he had a run-in with the Inquisitorius which made him fight back against the Empire. Cal decided to reconnect with the Force and aimed to bring back the Jedi Order since the Empire’s Jedi hunters were chasing him.

Cal Kestis was a Padawan of Jedi Master Jaro Tapal and fought in the Clone Wars with him. Everything changed when the Grand Army of the Republic were ordered by Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine to carry out Order 66 turning against their Jedi officers.

The clone troopers of the 13th Battalion tried to kill Cal, but his master Tapal gave his life to protect him. After losing his master, Cal went into hiding on the planet Bracca, he worked for the Scrapper Guild until his hidden life ended when he was found by the Empire’s Inquisitors, the Second Sister and Ninth Sister.

Cal Kestis became part of the crew of the spaceship Stinger Mantis after they saved him from the Inquisitors. Cal made friends with a droid named BD-1, a former Jedi named Cere Junda, the ship’s captain Greez Dritus and a Nightsister named Merrin.

They set out to find a Jedi holocron that belong to Eno Cordova which had important information a new generation of Jedi, they got the holocron and survived an encounter with the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader, Cal decided to destroy it to keep the galaxy’s Force-sensitive children safe from the Sith. By this time, Cal was recognized as a fully trained Jedi by his new mentor.

By 9 BBY, Cal was working with Saw Gerrera and other rebels against the Empire. The mercenary Bode Akuna gave him a LW-896 blaster pistol, they went on a mission to Coruscant to steal secret Imperial information but had to make a crash landing on Koboh to escape.

While on Koboh, Kestis found a droid named ZN-A4 in an old Jedi chamber and learned about the planet Tanalorr which he wanted to use as a safe place for those being hunted by the Empire. Kestis got his old crew back together and focused on finding a way through the dangerous Koboh Abyss to reach Tanalorr for the Hidden Path network.

During this time, Kestis and Merrin started a romantic relationship. Akuna later betrayed them on Jedha causing an Imperial attack on Junda’s archive, so Kestis chased Akuna to Tanalorr and defeated him in a lightsaber combat.

Cal Kestis’s cyan lightsaber

In “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order”, the character Cal Kestis creates a new lightsaber on the planet Ilum, this happens after breaking his previous lightsaber which belonged to his former master Jaro Tapal.

Kestis constructs the new lightsaber from parts of Tapal’s saber and parts from Cere Junda’s lightsaber, he powers it with two kyber crystals that inexplicably split apart when he found them in the Crystal Cave on Ilum.

The lightsaber has a double-bladed design like Tapal’s weapon, one side has dual emitter shrouds on each end with a black grip in the middle, the other side has a flared emitter with a wrapped X-pattern.

Kestis can ignite just one blade or both blades at the same time, the lightsaber can also split apart into two separate single-blade weapons allowing Kestis to use the dual-blade fighting style Jar’Kai.

In the game players can customize Cal’s lightsaber appearance and color, available blade colors are: cyan, blue, green, yellow, purple, orange, indigo and magenta.

Meetra Surik, known as “the Jedi Exile” after the Mandalorian Wars, was a female human Jedi Master, when she was a Padawan she disobeyed the Jedi High Council orders to help the Galactic Republic fight the invading Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders.

She became a Jedi Knight during the war and served bravely under Revan and Malak, she was then commissioned as a General in the Republic Military.

Surik played an important role in defeating the Mandalorians towards the end of the war, but because of her controversial actions during the final big battle, she lost her connection to the Force.

Afterwards, out of all the Jedi who went to war, she was the only one who did not turn to the dark side and returned to the Jedi Council to be judged for her actions. After being exiled from the Jedi Order, she wandered the outer regions of known space for nearly 10 years before returning to the Republic during the Dark Wars when the First Jedi Purge was at its peak.

Drawn into the schemes of various mysterious factions, she quickly became involved in the ongoing conflict and played a key role in defeating “The Sith Triumvirate” ruled by Darth Nihilus, Darth Sion and Darth Traya.

After regaining her connection to the Force and rejoining the Jedi Order, Surik was victorious in her fight against the Sith Lords. Right after, she began searching for the long missing Jedi Revan, she found Revan imprisoned on “Dromund Kaas” the capital planet of a Sith Empire thought to have been destroyed over 1,000 years earlier.

Surik joined Revan in his mission to kill the Sith Emperor who had been plotting to invade the Republic for centuries. She, Revan and Lord Scourge teamed up for this common goal and attacked the Emperor. However, Scourge seemed to betray his Jedi allies and stabbed Surik from behind, killing her instantly, her death helped Revan delay the Emperor and his plans.

Surik joined Revan in his mission to kill the Sith Emperor who had been plotting to invade the Republic for centuries. She, Revan and Lord Scourge joined forces to attack the Emperor. However, Scourge betrayed his Jedi allies and stabbed Surik from behind killing her instantly, her death helped Revan delay the Emperor’s plans.

When Surik died, her spirit stayed with Revan and helped him endure the horrible experience of being imprisoned in stasis. In the years after her physical death, the Jedi that she trained during her travels played a crucial role in rebuilding the Jedi Order, after it was almost completely destroyed by the Sith.

Three centuries later when the Sith Emperor attacked the Republic, Surik’s spirit instructed Jedi Master Oteg to send a team to free Revan from his prison in the Maelstrom Nebula. After urging Revan to complete his mission and destroy the Emperor, Surik’s spirit disappeared.

Years later, Surik joined with the legendary Alliance Commander and many of history’s greatest champions to battle the remnants of Vitiate’s essence and destroying the Emperor. Then Surik finally became one with the Force.

Meetra Surik’s Cyan Lightsaber

Meetra Surik built her cyan lightsaber before the Mandalorian Wars. During the war, she used it to fight the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders in many battles such as Eres III, Onderon, Dxun, Duro and the Battle of Malachor V.

After the war, when Surik was summoned to the Jedi Temple to face consequences for her actions and the Jedi High Council decided to expel her from the Jedi Order, she plunged her lightsaber into the stone floor of the High Council Chamber. The lightsaber was later stored in the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine.

During the Jedi Civil War, Jedi Master Atris moved most of the Jedi’s historical items including Surik’s lightsaber to the academy on Telos IV for safekeeping. Five years later, Surik found Atris on Telos while searching for the Lost Jedi. Atris refused to give back the lightsaber seeing it as a symbol of the Mandalorian Wars’ violence and corruption by the Dark side. However, Surik later discovered that Atris had become a Dark Jedi. Surik returned to the academy, defeated Atris in a lightsaber duel and reclaimed her cyan lightsaber.
