The Difference Between Green and Blue Lightsabers

Green Lightsabers
Jedi with green lightsabers tend to have a stronger focus on their connection to the Force. They emphasize wisdom, knowledge, and a deeper understanding of the Force’s mysteries. Green lightsabers are often associated with Jedi Consulars, who prioritize diplomacy, meditation, and the study of the Force. They seek to resolve conflicts through wisdom and negotiation rather than combat.
Blue Lightsabers
Jedi who wield blue lightsabers are more focused on combat and lightsaber training. They excel in lightsaber techniques and physical combat. Typically, blue lightsabers are associated with Jedi Guardians, who prioritize protecting the galaxy from dark forces. These Jedi often take on roles that involve direct confrontation with enemies.

1. Yoda
Yoda was a famous Force-sensitive Jedi Master who led the Jedi Order during the High Republic period and the years before it was destroyed by the Sith. Even though he was small, he was respected for his wisdom and strength.
Yoda trained many Jedi and was the Grand Master of the Jedi Order, he played important roles in protecting the Republic during the Clone Wars, survived Order 66 and lived to teach Luke Skywalker and discover the secret to immortality.
Master Yoda’s lightsabers: During the Republic Era, Yoda wielded a shoto-style lightsaber, which he lost in a duel with Darth Sidious at the conclusion of the Clone Wars. On Dagobah, he carried a nearly identical lightsaber.
Yoda’s first lightsaber had a green blade and was smaller than usual since it has a shorter handle and blade, the lightsaber had a simple design with a studded chrome handle, black trim and an emitter shroud. Inside, a kyber crystal created the bright green blade.
Yoda’s Second Lightsaber was a single bladed shoto, it had a short blade, a straight handle, an emitter shroud and it also contained a green kyber crystal.
2. Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker was a Force-sensitive human male, born in 19 BBY with his twin sister Leia. He is the child of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala. Luke became a Jedi Master and played a big role in the Galactic Civil War when the Galactic Empire was in power.
Luke and his friends Princess Leia Organa and General Han Solo fought for the Alliance to Restore the Republic, they aimed to defeat the Empire and restore democracy. After the war, Luke became a legend known as one of the greatest Jedi ever.
Luke Skywalker used at least three different lightsabers during the Galactic Civil War. The first one was his father’s former blue lightsaber, given to him by Obi-Wan Kenobi. Luke used it for three years before losing it, along with his hand, in a fight with Darth Vader on Bespin.
The second lightsaber he obtained was after visiting a Jedi outpost on Tempes. This one was a damaged yellow lightsaber pike that he repaired and used to fight enemies like Commander Ellian Zahra.
Finally, Luke built a new lightsaber with a green blade. He used this one to save his friends from Jabba the Hutt and in his last fight with Darth Vader.
3. Qui-Gon Jinn
Qui-Gon Jinn, a wise Jedi Master, was a Force-sensitive human male who lived during the final years of the Republic Era. Though well-regarded within the Jedi Order and offered a place on the Jedi Council, he declined, choosing instead to pursue his own path.
Guided by a philosophy focused on the Living Force, Jinn prioritized the will of the Force over the directives of the High Council. Upon meeting Anakin Skywalker, he brought the boy to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, firmly believing he had discovered the Chosen One. Jinn’s final wish was for Anakin to become a Jedi and restore balance to the Force.
Qui-Gon Jinn carried a green lightsaber for most of his life, featuring a ridged handgrip section on the front face that housed micro-power cells to regulate current charge levels. A red button served as the activation switch, while the hilt, crafted from alloy metal, measured 28.5 centimeters in length and 3.8 centimeters in width. Simpler in design than his master Dooku’s lightsaber, Jinn’s weapon was functional yet refined.
4. Ahsoka Tano
Ahsoka Tano, a Togruta girl, was a Force-sensitive ex-Jedi who helped create a network of rebel groups against the Galactic Empire after the Clone Wars. Jedi Master Plo Koon found her on her home planet Shili and brought her to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant to train. When the Clone Wars started, Jedi Grand Master Yoda made her the Padawan of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker.
Ahsoka became a strong fighter before the Empire’s reign changed everything. Even though she left the Jedi Order, she kept helping those who fought for peace and justice in the galaxy long after the Republic fell.
Ahsoka Tano wielded two different pairs of lightsabers. Her first pair featured a green blade and a shorter one with a yellow-green blade, while her second pair had white blades.
5. Asajj Ventress
Asajj Ventress was a Force-sensitive female from Dathomir. Throughout her life, she had many roles: a Nightsister, a Jedi Padawan, a Dark Jedi, a military commander for the Confederacy of Independent Systems and a bounty hunter. She was born during the last years of the Galactic Republic to a clan of Nightsister witches led by Mother Talzin on Dathomir.
When she was a baby, her clan had to give her to the criminal Hal’Sted, who took her to the war-torn planet Rattatak where she became his slave. After Hal’Sted was killed by Weequay pirates, Jedi Knight Ky Narec who was stuck on Rattatak and fighting the pirates, found her and took her in.
As she grew, Count Dooku trained her in the dark side of the Force. Ventress secretly worked as Dooku’s apprentice, yearning to be considered a true Sith. During the Clone Wars, she fought for the Separatists and clashed with Jedi like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. However, when Dooku was ordered to dispose of her and left her for dead, Ventress returned to her Nightsister clan to seek revenge. Eventually, she reinvented herself as a bounty hunter reclaiming her identity as neither a Sith nor a Jedi.
Asajj Ventress’s lightsabers changed as her allegiances shifted. As a Padawan, she used a green lightsaber. Later, when she served the Sith Lord Count Dooku, she used two red curved-hilt lightsabers, similar in design to Dooku’s own weapon. After being betrayed by Count Dooku, Ventress felt lost and began searching for a new purpose and identity. During this period, she obtained a yellow lightsaber from the black market.
6. Ezra Bridger
Ezra Bridger was a young Jedi from the planet Lothal who became a key figure in the Rebel Alliance. Trained by Kanan Jarrus, Ezra learned to use the Force and wielded a lightsaber to fight against the evil Galactic Empire.
Throughout his journey, he grew from a street-smart orphan into a courageous leader dedicated to helping others and fighting for freedom.
Following his mission at the Lothal Jedi Temple, where he obtained a Kyber crystal, Ezra crafted his first lightsaber. This weapon featured a blue blade and a distinctive guard running along the hilt for added protection, as well as a built-in blaster pistol, making it a unique hybrid. Darth Vader ultimately destroyed this lightsaber on Malachor. Roughly six months later, Ezra built a new lightsaber with a green blade.
7. Cal Kestis
Cal Kestis was a human male with the ability to use the Force, he became a Jedi Knight when the Galactic Empire was in power.
After most of the Jedi were killed, Cal hid on the planet Bracca for many years, his peaceful life changed when he had a run-in with the Inquisitorius which made him fight back against the Empire. Cal decided to reconnect with the Force and aimed to bring back the Jedi Order since the Empire’s Jedi hunters were chasing him.
Cal Kestis was a Padawan of Jedi Master Jaro Tapal and fought in the Clone Wars with him. Everything changed when the Grand Army of the Republic were ordered by Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine to carry out Order 66 turning against their Jedi officers.
The clone troopers of the 13th Battalion tried to kill Cal, but his master Tapal gave his life to protect him. After losing his master, Cal went into hiding on the planet Bracca, he worked for the Scrapper Guild until his hidden life ended when he was found by the Empire’s Inquisitors, the Second Sister and Ninth Sister.
Cal Kestis became part of the crew of the spaceship Stinger Mantis after they saved him from the Inquisitors. Cal made friends with a droid named BD-1, a former Jedi named Cere Junda, the ship’s captain Greez Dritus and a Nightsister named Merrin.
They set out to find a Jedi holocron that belong to Eno Cordova which had important information a new generation of Jedi, they got the holocron and survived an encounter with the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader, Cal decided to destroy it to keep the galaxy’s Force-sensitive children safe from the Sith. By this time, Cal was recognized as a fully trained Jedi by his new mentor.
By 9 BBY, Cal was working with Saw Gerrera and other rebels against the Empire. The mercenary Bode Akuna gave him a LW-896 blaster pistol, they went on a mission to Coruscant to steal secret Imperial information but had to make a crash landing on Koboh to escape.
While on Koboh, Kestis found a droid named ZN-A4 in an old Jedi chamber and learned about the planet Tanalorr which he wanted to use as a safe place for those being hunted by the Empire. Kestis got his old crew back together and focused on finding a way through the dangerous Koboh Abyss to reach Tanalorr for the Hidden Path network.
During this time, Kestis and Merrin started a romantic relationship. Akuna later betrayed them on Jedha causing an Imperial attack on Junda’s archive, so Kestis chased Akuna to Tanalorr and defeated him in a lightsaber combat.
In “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order”, the character Cal Kestis creates a new lightsaber on the planet Ilum, this happens after breaking his previous lightsaber which belonged to his former master Jaro Tapal.
Kestis constructs the new lightsaber from parts of Tapal’s saber and parts from Cere Junda’s lightsaber, he powers it with two kyber crystals that inexplicably split apart when he found them in the Crystal Cave on Ilum.
The lightsaber has a double-bladed design like Tapal’s weapon, one side has dual emitter shrouds on each end with a black grip in the middle, the other side has a flared emitter with a wrapped X-pattern.
Kestis can ignite just one blade or both blades at the same time, the lightsaber can also split apart into two separate single-blade weapons allowing Kestis to use the dual-blade fighting style Jar’Kai.
In the game players can customize Cal’s lightsaber appearance and color, available blade colors are: green, blue, yellow, purple, cyan, orange, indigo and magenta.
8. Aayla Secura
Aayla Secura was a Force-sensitive Rutian Twi’lek female who became a Jedi Master and served as a Jedi General in the Republic’s army during the Clone Wars. Before the war, she learned about the Force from her teacher, Jedi Master Quinlan Vos. When the war began between the Republic and the Separatists, Secura, along with other Jedi, joined the Republic’s military. She led the clone troopers of the 327th Star Corps, with Commander Bly serving as her second-in-command.
Throughout the war, Secura fought in many battles across the galaxy, including Geonosis, Quell, Coruscant, and Felucia. As the conflict neared its end, Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, issued Order 66, leading to a sudden purge of the Jedi by their own troops. Secura was among the first casualties, shot in the back multiple times by Bly and several other clone troopers.
Grand Master Yoda sensed Secura’s demise and the deaths of many other Jedi through the Force. He survived the purge and went into exile as the Galactic Empire took over the Republic. Secura’s death was also witnessed in a Force vision by Depa Billaba and her apprentice, Caleb Dume, on Kaller. Decades later, Secura’s voice joined those of other fallen Jedi to inspire Rey in her climactic battle against her grandfather, Darth Sidious, on Exegol.
Jedi Knight Aayla Secura wielded a blue lightsaber before and throughout the Clone Wars. At times, she also wielded a green lightsaber alongside her primary blade, using her Jar’Kai combat skills.
9. Kit Fisto
Kit Fisto, a Force-sensitive Nautolan male, served as a Jedi Master in the final years of the Galactic Republic. Renowned for his exceptional dueling skills, he was among the Jedi Order’s finest swordsmen. Throughout the Clone Wars, he held the role of Jedi General within the Republic’s Grand Army, fighting in many campaigns. Over time, he earned a place on the Jedi High Council.
In the early stages of the war, Kit Fisto fought in several battles, beginning with the opening conflict on Geonosis, followed by a covert mission on Hissrich. After Separatist leader Nute Gunray escaped Republic custody, Fisto and his former Padawan, Nahdar Vebb, were sent to recapture him. Their mission took an unexpected turn, leading to a confrontation with General Grievous in his lair; Vebb was killed, while Fisto narrowly survived but failed to capture Gunray.
Later, during a conflict on Mon Cala between the Mon Calamari and Separatist-backed Quarren, Fisto aided the Mon Calamari. Though initially forced into hiding and captured, he was eventually freed and helped turn the tide against the Separatists. Following these campaigns, Fisto took on a more active role on the Jedi High Council.
As the war neared its end, Fisto joined Mace Windu, Saesee Tiin, and Agen Kolar to arrest Chancellor Palpatine, revealed to be a Sith Lord. In the ensuing duel, Sidious swiftly killed Kolar and Tiin, and after a brief struggle, Fisto also fell to the Dark Lord’s blade, followed soon after by Windu.
Fisto wielded a green lightsaber that he personally modified to suit his needs in underwater battles. As a Nautolan Jedi Master, Fisto adapted his weapon with two crystals charged by a split ignition pulse, allowing the blade to remain energized even when fully submerged. This modification proved invaluable during his assignments on water-filled battlefronts, such as Kamino and Mon Cala, while battling the forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
10. Luminara Unduli
Luminara Unduli, a Force-sensitive Mirialan female, held the rank of Jedi Master during the final days of the Jedi Order. She led the 41st Elite Corps of the Grand Army of the Republic and mentored Padawan Barriss Offee. Together, they fought across various battlefronts in the Clone Wars until Offee betrayed the Jedi Order by bombing the Jedi Temple—a shocking and tragic moment for Unduli.
Near the end of the war, Unduli participated in the Battle of Kashyyyk. However, after Darth Sidious issued Order 66 to eradicate the Jedi, she was captured and executed.
Later, the Galactic Empire used her remains to lure surviving Jedi into traps. One of these traps targeted Kanan Jarrus and the Ghost crew, who were led to believe that Unduli was still alive and imprisoned on Stygeon Prime. Their attempted rescue revealed a trap orchestrated by the Grand Inquisitor, forcing them to escape and spread the word of Unduli’s true fate to prevent further Jedi casualties.
Years after her death, Unduli’s voice joined those of many Jedi who encouraged Rey, a new Jedi aspirant, to embrace the light as she confronted her grandfather, Darth Sidious, on Exegol.
Luminara wielded a green lightsaber as her personal weapon during the Clone Wars. The design of her lightsaber resembled that of Plo Koon’s, featuring a finned radiator casing and a ribbed gripping surface. The hilt bore noticeable signs of wear, reflecting the extensive missions Jedi Master Luminara Unduli undertook in the field.
Master Unduli carried her green-bladed weapon across many battlefronts in the Clone Wars, including the First and Second Battles of Geonosis, as well as in confrontations with the dark side adept Asajj Ventress. During the second Geonosis battle, Luminara was ambushed and captured by undead Geonosian warriors, losing her lightsaber in the encounter. Obi-Wan Kenobi later found the weapon while investigating her disappearance, and Anakin Skywalker briefly wielded it alongside his own before returning it to Luminara.
11. Yaddle
Yaddle was a female being of the same species as Yoda and Grogu. She was a Jedi Master and trained young Jedi during the High Republic Era.
In 382 BBY, Yaddle and a student named Cippa Tarko fought against the Path of the Open Hand, a cult that hated the Jedi and Force users, in the devastating battle on Dalna known as the Night of Sorrow.
Yaddle was part of the Jedi High Council in the final years of the Galactic Republic. She trained Oppo Rancisis, a Thisspiasian Padawan, who later joined her on the High Council in 32 BBY.
That same year, Qui-Gon Jinn took Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One, to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where he met Yaddle and the other Jedi elders.
After the Battle of Naboo, Yaddle followed Jedi Master Dooku, who was acting suspiciously. She encountered Darth Sidious, who ordered Dooku to kill her. Dooku defeated and killed Yaddle, completing his turn to the dark side of the Force.
During her time in the Jedi Order, Yaddle wielded a green shoto lightsaber. Despite her proficiency in lightsaber combat, she was defeated in a duel by the fallen Jedi Count Dooku, who took her life following the Invasion of Naboo.
12. Kyle Katarn
Kyle Katarn was a well-known Force-user Human male. He started as an officer for the Empire but switched sides to join the Rebels. Later, he became a Jedi in the New Jedi Order.
He often worked with Jan Ors, a smuggler and fellow Rebel agent, together, they went on many secret missions for the Rebel Alliance and the New Republic including stopping the Dark Trooper Project.
Over time, Kyle Katarn’s lightsabers evolved alongside his skills. He used at least three lightsabers in his life. His first, originally owned by Jedi Master Qu Rahn, emitted a green blade. After being passed down to Kyle by his father Morgan Katarn, he wielded it in battles against several Dark Jedi, it was destroyed by Boc Aseca, but Kyle acquired the yellow lightsaber of the Dark Jedi Yun. Later, he constructed his own blue lightsaber after joining the Jedi Praxeum.
