Who Has a Gold Lightsaber in Star Wars?

Qu Rahn, Valenthyne Farfalla, Raynar Thul, Klin-Fa Gi, and Tott Doneeta are the only characters known to have a gold lightsaber within the Star Wars universe.

1. Qu Rahn

Qu Rahn was a human male Jedi Master from the planet Socorro, he grew up to be an extremely loyal and dedicated Jedi. By 22 years before a major event, he had achieved the rank of Jedi Knight.

During a crisis when many planets left the Galactic Republic, Rahn led a team investigating a suspected terrorist named Gavrilonnis Tejere who tried to sabotage an important landing area. Rahn was active during the Clone Wars that followed, he served the Galactic Republic during its last years.

When the Republic became the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY and the hunt for Jedi began, Rahn was one of the few Jedi who survived Order 66 and the Emperor’s attack on the Jedi Order. Like many surviving Jedi, Rahn went into hiding to avoid Imperial hunters. At some point during the hunt, Rahn visited his former Jedi Master Yoda.

Yoda made Rahn a Jedi Master and gave him a gold lightsaber, he also teached Rahn how to become a Force ghost after death. Rahn was surprised by this new knowledge and the gift but he accepted the lightsaber and promised to protect it as it would protect him.

2. Valenthyne Farfalla

Valenthyne Farfalla was a well-known Jedi Master who was half-Bothan. He lived during the Golden Age of the Old Republic and was part of the Jedi Order.

He fought for the Army of Light as a Jedi Lord during the New Sith Wars. In the last years of the Ruusan campaign, he left Ruusan to gather three hundred people to help fight for the planet.

Farfalla often disagreed with Lord Hoth. After Hoth’s friend Pernicar was killed by the Sith, Hoth blamed Farfalla leading to a big argument between them. Despite this, they later made peace and led the Jedi in a final attack on the Sith’s base.

When Lord Skere Kaan used a thought bomb that killed Hoth and many Jedi, Farfalla and Berethon were the top Jedi who survived the battle on Ruusan.

Farfalla served the Jedi Order for ten more years during the Golden Age of the Old Republic. His life ended in a lightsaber duel with Darth Bane on Tython.

Valenthyne Farfalla was a talented Jedi Master. During the Sith war, he led three hundred soldiers and took charge of the entire Army of Light after Hoth died. On Ruusan, he used a blue lightsaber. After the war, he switched to a gold lightsaber. He fought with a graceful and defensive style, similar to the Makashi dueling form.

3. Raynar Thul

Raynar Thul was a human man who played different roles such as being an enemy and a friend to the Solo twins. He was the son of Bornan and Aryn Dro Thul, former nobles from Alderaan and was set to inherit their shipping business “Bornaryn Trading”.

After a mission to Myrkr during the Yuuzhan Vong War, Raynar was captured by the Killiks and became their leader, known as UnuThul.

In 35 ABY, under the Dark Nest’s influence, the Killiks attacked the Chiss starting the Swarm War. A year later, Luke Skywalker defeated UnuThul ending the war and Raynar was taken into custody by the Galactic Alliance.

After seven years and many surgeries, he came back to the Jedi Order as an active Jedi Knight. He helped defend the Temple against Mandalorian mercenaries working for Natasi Daala, the Chief of State of the Galactic Alliance.

Later, Thul went back to the Killiks to find important secrets about the dark side being “Abeloth“. After completing his mission, Raynar let the Thuruht hive mind absorb him becoming ThurThul. However, after the Lost Tribe of Sith and Abeloth were defeated, a group of Jedi sent by Luke Skywalker brought him back to join the Jedi again.

As UnuThul, Raynar used a gold lightsaber. Luke Skywalker took it away after a duel but said he might give it back one day. By 43 ABY, Raynar had his lightsaber again.

4. Klin-Fa Gi

Klin-Fa Gi was a Human female Jedi Knight during the Yuuzhan Vong War. Born on Bonadan, she was happy to join the New Jedi Order. She wielded a gold lightsaber and trained with Yabeley and Bey Gandan, who both liked her.

She and Gandan were thought dead at the Battle of Gyndine but survived, they discovered a qahsa (A creature made by the Yuuzhan Vong which worked like a computer) full of information about a Yuuzhan Vong plan to create weapons against Jedi and destroy the bacta on Thyferra.

Luke Skywalker hired Uldir Lochett and his crew on the “No Luck Required” to find Gi. However, she found out about the plan and escaped to Wayland.

While investigating the Yuuzhan Vong there, she and her two male friends were captured and tortured, and Yabeley died. Lochett tracked them down and helped free the other Jedi from Chom-Vrone, and they managed to escape the planet.

Unfortunately, they found out too late that Gandan had been injected with a poison that would destroy the bacta-producing alazhi. After a tough fight, Gi and Lochett killed Gandan and destroyed the virus.

5. Tott Doneeta

Tott Doneeta was a male Twi’lek from Ryloth. He was a slave when he was young, but Jedi Master Arca Jeth found him and trained him to be a Jedi Knight.

Doneeta, a loyal follower of the Force, studied with other apprentices Ulic and Cay Qel-Droma at Master Jeth’s training school on Arkania. As he trained to be a Jedi, Doneeta gained a special ability to understand and talk to beasts.

In 4000 BBY, Doneeta and his fellow apprentices helped resolve a conflict on Onderon, defeating the dark side followers there.

Later, Doneeta attended a Jedi Conclave that was attacked by the Sith cult, the Krath. His friend Ulic Qel-Droma turned to the dark side, and Doneeta was involved in efforts to stop him and the Sith. He helped save Jedi artifacts from a supernova and participated in defeating the Sith Lord Exar Kun.

Years later, Doneeta tried to protect his people from a heat storm on Ryloth and attended another Jedi meeting where he saved Nomi Sunrider’s daughter. He then traveled with Jedi Sylvar, trying to help her manage her anger, but ultimately left her to decide her path.

Tott Doneeta was a skilled practitioner of the fourth form of lightsaber combat, Ataru, despite being flat-footed. Throughout his time as a Jedi, he built and wielded various lightsabers, often switching between single and two-handed grips while dueling.

His first lightsaber featured a distinct hilt design with a curved guard and pommel, producing a golden blade, which he used during the Beast Wars of Onderon. On occasion, he also wielded a purple-bladed lightsaber with a straight handle, secured to his wrist by a fine cord when not on his side.

During the Naddist Revolt, Doneeta alternated between his now green-bladed curved-hilt lightsaber and the straight-handled purple one. He continued using the green-bladed weapon during battles in the Krath conflict, including those on Deneba and Coruscant.

Later in life, after returning to his homeworld of Ryloth, Doneeta opted to carry a rare Jedi katana—a blade made of curved metal rather than energy. He also wielded a blue-bladed lightsaber with a smooth cylindrical hilt in a reverse grip, notably during Sylvar’s ritual blood hunt.
