Mara Jade Skywalker

Who is Mara Jade?

Mara Jade Skywalker was a Force-sensitive woman who had many roles in her life: she worked for Emperor Palpatine as his assassin, was a smuggler and later became a Jedi Master on the Jedi High Council.

Raised to serve and kill for Palpatine, she was a top Force-using operative carrying out his orders with skill and cold precision. She was trained by experts in many fields, a training that continued with Luke Skywalker later on.

After Palpatine’s death, she was told to kill Luke, but she went rogue instead. She joined smuggler chief Talon Karrde and became one of his best smugglers and his second-in-command.

Forced to work with Luke during the rise of Grand Admiral Thrawn, she developed a grudging respect for him. She proved herself as a skilled pilot, mechanic and fighter by using both a blaster and hand-to-hand combat techniques without relying on the Force.

Over time, Mara continued working for Karrde and occasionally interacted with Luke, training at his Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4. Karrde groomed her to lead the Smugglers’ Alliance, and she briefly pretended to date Lando Calrissian for this role. She grew closer to Luke, they realized they loved each other while on a mission to Nirauan in 19 ABY.

After marrying Luke, Mara took the surname Skywalker and dedicated herself to the New Jedi Order, eventually becoming a Jedi Master. Just before the Yuuzhan Vong War, she got sick from coomb spores but slowed their effects with the Force.

She fought against the invaders and was cured after her son Ben was born in 26 ABY. She trained her niece Jaina Solo and fought in the Yuuzhan Vong War helping to elect Cal Omas as the Chief of State of the newly formed Galactic Federation of Free Alliances. Her efforts paid off in the final battle on Coruscant with the death of Supreme Overlord Shimrra Jamaane.

In the following years, Mara was active during the Dark Nest Crisis and Swarm War, helping to stop Raynar Thul and the insectoid Killiks from expanding into Chiss space. She insisted that Jedi who had joined the Killiks would be taken out because they were using their combat skills against the Chiss.

She continued to serve as a Jedi Master during the Second Galactic Civil War and fighting alongside the Galactic Alliance against the Confederation. She faced the Sith Lady Lumiya and the fallen Jedi Alema Rar but they escaped multiple times. Eventually, Mara was killed by her nephew Jacen Solo who had become a Sith and was a threat to her family, the Jedi Order and the galaxy.

Mara Jade’s Magenta Lightsaber

Mara Jade carried a magenta lightsaber, emperor Palpatine gave Mara a rare crystal to make this lightsaber when she became an Emperor’s Hand. Before working for Talon Karrde, Mara rarely carried a lightsaber, but during the Galactic Civil War she used this magenta lightsaber along with her blaster pistol, she used it in the Shelsha sector, on the planets Svivren, Chibias and Kintoni.

Mara lost this lightsaber after the Battle of Endor when she dueled Lumiya on Caprioril. Years later, when Mara joined the New Jedi Order, she made a new lightsaber with a purple blade as part of her Jedi training.

Cal Kestis’s Magenta Lightsaber

In “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order”, the character Cal Kestis creates a new lightsaber on the planet Ilum, this happens after breaking his previous lightsaber which belonged to his former master Jaro Tapal.

Kestis constructs the new lightsaber from parts of Tapal’s saber and parts from Cere Junda’s lightsaber, he powers it with two kyber crystals that inexplicably split apart when he found them in the Crystal Cave on Ilum.

The lightsaber has a double-bladed design like Tapal’s weapon, one side has dual emitter shrouds on each end with a black grip in the middle, the other side has a flared emitter with a wrapped X-pattern.

Kestis can ignite just one blade or both blades at the same time, the lightsaber can also split apart into two separate single-blade weapons allowing Kestis to use the dual-blade fighting style Jar’Kai.

In the game players can customize Cal’s lightsaber appearance and color, available blade colors are: magenta, blue, green, yellow, purple, orange, indigo and cyan.

Sylvar

Who is Sylvar?

Sylvar was a female Jedi Knight from the planet Cathar. She trained in the Jedi arts under Master Vodo-Siosk Baas on Dantooine, along with her mate Crado and a Human called Exar Kun.

When Kun left to become a Dark Lord of the Sith, Sylvar got caught up in the Great Sith War, fighting for the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic alongside notable figures like Nomi Sunrider and Master Thon of Ambria.

Sylvar saw a lot of action on Coruscant, Ambria and Ossus, where she confronted Exar Kun for his crimes. The war took a heavy toll on her, her master was killed by Kun and her mate Crado betrayed them and was killed by the Sith. When the Republic finally won and Exar Kun was defeated, Sylvar had lost everything she held dear including the future she had hoped for.

Later in life, Sylvar made it her goal to make sure Ulic Qel-Droma, the last member of the Sith regime, paid for his crimes. Struggling with her bitterness from the war, she tried to escape her anger by going on missions to Ryloth and Cathar, but it didn’t help.

When she finally confronted Qel-Droma, he refused to fight back. This made her realize her mistake and return to the light. Ulic Qel-Droma’s death, caused by someone else, was key to her redemption.

Sylvar’s Magenta Lightsaber

Sylvar was skilled with a lightsaber from early on. During her Jedi training and throughout the Sith War, she used a yellow lightsaber. Later, as the events leading to Ulic Qel-Droma’s death unfolded, she switched to a magenta lightsaber.

Sylvar was very good at deflecting attacks. She showed this skill when she fought with Dace Diath to protect her Master and the Supreme Chancellor from powerful Basilisk war droids. She even used the handle of her lightsaber as a club to knock out Oss Wilum on Ambria.

When Sylvar’s lightsaber wasn’t enough, and sometimes even when it was, she used her sharp claws to seriously hurt her enemies. She left deep scars on Exar Kun and Crado that they carried for the rest of their lives. Many Massassi were killed by her claws, even as she fought with her lightsaber in the other hand.

Tersu

Tersu was a human woman from the planet Zakuul. She belonged to the Scions of Zakuul, a group within the Knights of Zakuul that focused on Force visions and were very interested in fate.

Tersu had fair skin, reddish hair and brown eyes. When Emperor Arcann ordered the killing of the Scions as he took the throne of the Eternal Empire, Tersu was one of the few who escaped. She and the others found refuge on the shadowport Asylum, led by Heskal.

In 3631 BBY, the Scions called the Commander to Asylum to test why they couldn’t see the Commander’s future. Tersu and another Scion “Maral” attacked the Commander in a series of fights. These tests showed that Valkorion “The Immortal Emperor” was inside the Commander’s mind.

The Scions then pledged their loyalty to the Commander. However, Heskal later betrayed them and the Outlander to Arcann believing it would force a confrontation. Arcann killed Tersu and the other Scions just before the Commander arrived starting the Battle of Asylum. Throughout her journey, Tersu wielded a magenta lightsaber.
