A pink lightsaber is an extremely rare weapon in Star Wars and the exact meaning of the pink color isn’t entirely confirmed in Star Wars canon. This article focuses exclusively on Star Wars Legends, not the canon. We will talk about the meaning of the pink lightsaber and the Dantari crystals known to produce the pink blade color. Finally, we will identify the users of the pink lightsaber in Star Wars.
What Is the History Behind Lightsaber Colors in Star Wars?
Lightsaber colors have long been tied to their wielders’ personalities and affiliations. Blue and green sabers are generally used by Jedi, symbolizing the light side of the Force. Red lightsabers, often associated with the Sith, are crafted using synthetic crystals, representing the dark side. Other hues like purple, yellow, and white have appeared in both canon and Legends material, further deepening the mythology of the Star Wars universe.
A lightsaber’s color comes from the kyber crystal it uses, and these crystals are attuned to the Force. Each Jedi or Sith forges a unique connection with their crystal, leading to different blade colors. Pink lightsabers, although rare, tap into this deep lore, embodying meanings and associations that diverge from the traditional colors seen in the films and animated series.

Why Are Pink Lightsaber Crystals So Rare?
Pink lightsaber crystals are very rare. Obtaining a pink lightsaber can be achieved by acquiring a Dantari crystal, the Dantari lightsaber crystals are uniquely found on the planet of Dantoine, the same planet that would later become a rebel stronghold during the time of the Empire.
A Dantari lightsaber crystal could only be found in the eggs of a kinrath, a dangerous species on the planet, it would be very risky to acquire the eggs of a kinrath so the Force wielders had to be extremely careful.
Most Force wielders that acquired a crystal here were extremely skilled in the ability of Beast control, meaning they could subtly manipulate the mind of a kinrath before they acquired their egg and searched for a lightsaber crystal. But again, this process was extremely dangerous, as in a lot of cases, the kinrath were large in number.
How Dantari Crystals Can Produce a Pink Blade Color?
The Dantari lightsaber crystals had something very unique to them and something that later Star Wars canon would adopt, they would actually imprint upon the Force wielder who claimed them, so the Dantari crystal would adopt a color similar to the Force wielder just as is done in Star Wars canon when a Force wielder imbues upon a crystal.
The Dantari lightsaber crystals were famous for producing extremely rare colors, again with pink being among these, but also colors such as purple and yellow. They also produced more common colors such as red, green and blue.
A Dantari lightsaber crystal also held a few special abilities within the crystal that would aid the wielder during the heat of a Force battle or lightsaber combat, a Dantari lightsaber crystal would actually collect stray Force energy recycling that Force energy back into the wielder, meaning that the wielder of a Dantari lightsaber crystal could fight far longer than is normal, this also meant that the Force itself was a little bit more prominent within a Dantari lightsaber crystal.
If a Dantari lightsaber crystal was used to its maximum degree, the wielder of the crystal would not get tired, as all the Force energy that the wielder expelled would simply be recycled back into them thanks to the crystal and its special alignment with the wielder.
Who Has a Pink Lightsaber in Star Wars?
Luke Skywalker, the Scions of Zakuul, Crymsin Ost, and Darth Nix are the only characters known to have a pink lightsaber within the Star Wars universe.
1. Luke Skywalker
The lightsaber that Luke Skywalker had at first was not blue or green, it was pink. Before the movie “Star Wars: A New Hope” by George Lucas was shown in theaters, Marvel made two Star Wars comic books first. The comic book series called “Star Wars” was written by Roy Thomas and drawn by Howard Chaykin.
It seemed they had to fill in some details that were not in the movie, this led to one of the strangest choices in all the Star Wars comic books. At the beginning of Luke Skywalker’s journey, they gave him a pink lightsaber.
The strange thing starts on the cover of Star Wars comic #2, Obi-Wan Kenobi holds a pink lightsaber, Luke and Obi-Wan are surrounded by aliens, on the cover, the lightsaber is called a “light-sabre”
Inside the comic, the art shows Luke’s lightsaber as pink. When Luke first gets his father’s lightsaber from Obi-Wan, it is clearly pink.
If you think “maybe the colorist made a mistake in just this issue,” you are wrong. Luke’s lightsaber is pink in the next issue during his Jedi training, it is pink on other covers. Even when Obi-Wan Kenobi fights Darth Vader, their lightsabers are pink too.
Maybe the artist and colorist used pink to show the lightsaber was glowing, but that does not make much sense, the colors of lightsabers are important in Star Wars and it is not strange to make the lightsaber colors accurate to the films. Instead, the original Star Wars comics have pink lightsabers with no explanation.
I could not find why the lightsabers were colored pink, it seems it was the best way to stylize them at that time or maybe the artists and colorists were in a hurry and they did not have time to color each individual lightsaber.
It would be fixed in future Star Wars comics, but for fans reading the series again, it is confusing to see for an important part of Star Wars history.
2. Scions of Zakuul
The Scions of Zakuul, also known as “the Scions” used pink lightsabers, they are a group within the Zakuul Knights, they can see glimpses of the future through the Force, before Arcann became Emperor, Scions were often paired with other Knights, this created teams with both mental abilities and physical strength.
Scions are obsessed with the idea of fate, they think their visions of the future cannot be wrong, Valkorion was happy to use this obsession for his own benefit but Arcann disliked the Scions, he thought they were foolish and narrow-minded.
One of Arcann’s first acts as Emperor was killing many Scions, this caused a divide among the Zakuul Knights, some Knights left the order completely, Arcann’s sister Vaylin killed any Knights who spoke against the new Emperor.
The remaining Scions led by Heskal fled to the planet Asylum, there they waited for the Outlander prophesied to defeat the Emperor.
The Scions of Zakuul wield pink lightsabers. This color is associated with destiny and is seen as a symbol of their strong beliefs in their path.
3. Crymsin Ost
Crymsin Ost was a Force-sensitive Human woman who joined the Jedi Order during the last years of the Galactic Republic. She later turned to the dark side and joined a Sith cult called the Believers in the Cularin system.
Around 21 BBY, during the Clone Wars, she went to the Caarimoos system to lead a Believer mission to spread a deadly virus on the planet Caarimon to kill most of the Caarite species. However, a group of freelance agents attacked and defeated her stopping the virus from being released.
Ost wielded a pink lightsaber. The handle was made of black steel and it turned on with an internal switch by using the Force. She also had a blaster pistol as a backup weapon and she wore regular street clothes during her attack on Creautaa-V.
4. Darth Nix
Darth Nix was a character made for Red Fly Studio’s video game “Battle of the Sith Lords”. The design was created by concept artist Thomas A. Szakolczay before the game was canceled in 2011.
Darth Nix was a female Sith Lord who lived during the rule of Darth Krayt’s Galactic Empire from 130 ABY to 138 ABY. She had yellow eyes, light skin, short black hair and light blue Sith tattoos.
Darth Nix wore a revealing outfit that showed most of her body. She had sheer black fabric covering her legs and waist, down to black boots with patterns on her legs. On her head, she wore two spiked metal headdresses attached near her temples, extending above her head and below her jawline. Darth Nix used a pink lightsaber with a black handle.
Are Pink Lightsabers Coming to Future Star Wars Films or Series?
Could we see pink lightsabers make an appearance in future Star Wars films or TV series? Given the franchise’s continuous evolution and the growing diversity of its characters and stories, it’s entirely possible. As the Star Wars universe expands to include more nuanced and varied representations of the Force, characters who wield non-traditional lightsaber colors like pink could easily find their way into future projects.
If Star Wars creators choose to explore more unique lightsaber colors, pink could serve as a visual cue to introduce new types of Force users with different philosophies, skill sets, or backgrounds. The introduction of a pink saber could symbolize a break from tradition, adding another layer of depth to the ever-growing Star Wars mythos.
